YEMEN: The Biden Administration bombed Yemen. Again.
Since January 11, our government has repeatedly bombed Yemen, without getting Congressional authorization as required by the Constitution. And the Washington Post reported that Biden is planning a sustained, open ended military campaign in Yemen. This in spite of the fact that when asked if the strikes were working, Biden said, “Are they stopping the Houthis? No. Are they going to continue? Yes.”
Biden campaigned against “forever wars,” yet he seems poised to start one in Yemen.
The Constitution and War Powers Act prohibit the President from launching military action without Congressional approval (absent narrow exceptions inapplicable in this case).
The people must be allowed to weigh in. Congressional debate and oversight is urgently needed for these strikes. Not only are the strikes of dubious effectiveness, they have the potential to draw the US into a wider regional war. |
