FREEDOM OF THE PRESS:  The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 plan for the next administration is full of scary stuff. From militarized immigration enforcement to schemes to deport protesters, it is a nightmare for democracy.

But there is one provision that we can nip in the bud, right now.

Here’s the deal: Project 2025 strikes at the heart of press freedom by greenlighting government surveillance of journalists and forcing them to disclose their confidential sources.  But the Senate could thwart this plan. They just need to pass the PRESS (Protect Reporters from Exploitative State Spying) Act to shield journalists from government intrusion.

The press can’t do their job if sources are afraid to talk to them, or if they are being surveilled by the FBI. The PRESS Act is essential to protecting press freedom. As John Cusack succinctly put it:

We cannot allow the government to surveil journalists and expose sources — even the threat of which produces a chilling effect on the press — if we expect journalists to expose corruption, speak truth to power and print what the powerful don’t want printed. As the man said, everything else is just public relations.

We’ve been fighting for legislation like this for years – but today we confront the added urgency of a concrete plan to go after journalists and their sources.  Let’s get this done, before it’s too late!

Senator Schumer can stop this attack on press freedom, but he needs to hear from you.
