The government shouldn’t be allowed to spy on the press, seize journalists’ phone and email records, or compel them to expose their sources. That’s just press freedom 101. It isn’t even controversial. Most states have laws to protect reporters’ privilege, and a federal bill to protect journalists flew through the House unopposed. But now the federal bill – the PRESS Act – is stalled in the Senate.
We need your help to inspire the Senate to act before the end of this term to pass the PRESS Act. We’ve launched a new campaign along with 13 other press freedom and civil society groups to mobilize grassroots support for the bill.
